Iolite

iolite

According to legend, Vikings used iolite slices to reduce glare when checking the sun’s position.

Details:

The name comes from its violet color. The other names are derived from the French mineralogist , Cordier ; from its multi-coloring (wrongly) dichroite; and from its similarity to sapphire. Greasy, vitreous luster; care must be taken when cutting because of the strong pleochroism. Stones must not be too thick.
